Nutcracker Digital Video Recorder Digital Video Recorder for Military and Government The Nutcracker™ software application is an industrial-strength digital video recorder designed expressly for the requirements of metadata-rich government applications, such as recording video from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), police cars, tanks, and surveillance. Nutcracker receives high-resolution video, audio and metadata in real-time, decodes and displays it with exceptionally low latency, and stores the compressed frames and metadata in an industry-standard SQL database. Stored media can be easily searched using powerful database queries. Furthermore, many playback modes are supported: fast forward, rewind, slow motion, and frame-by-frame advance. Users may flag and annotate stored video on a frame-by-frame basis, and search based on annotations. DVDs of interesting video segments can be generated at the click of a mouse. Nutcracker arose from work performed by Cardinal Peak for the U. S. Navy to receive and process video and metadata returned to a ground station from UAVs. Additionally, it has served as the back-office video database for law enforcement applications.
